Concussion Protocol
Liberty High School follows both CA STATE LAW AB 2127 (Effective 1/1/15) and CIF Guidelines in regards to Concussion Protocol
If your student is suspected of sustaining a concussion or receives a head injury:
- Immediate Removal: Any athlete suspected of having a concussion or receiving a head injury must be removed from play and sit out for a minimum of seven (7) days. If they are not diagnosed with a concussion, they may return to play 7 days after they have been cleared by a licensed healthcare provider (MD or DO). Return to play requires written medical clearance.
- Medical Evaluation: The athlete must be evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider (MD or DO) trained in concussion management.
- Written Clearance: A doctor's written clearance is required to return to play.
If your student is diagnosed with a concussion:

- Written Clearance: A doctor's written clearance is required to begin and progress through the protocol.
- Academic Priority: Students must return to a normal school schedule without modifications (Return to Learn) before completing the final stages of the athletic protocol.
The 7-Day (Minimum) Graduated Protocol
If your Athlete is diagnosed with a concussion, please see the chart below. Athletes can progress a maximum of one stage per day. If symptoms return at any point, they must stop activity, rest for 24 hours, and restart at the previous asymptomatic stage.
